What this tool helps you decide
TBW and DWPD describe the same warranty write allowance from different directions. This converter helps translate a label into a daily budget before comparing capacities or planning a workload. It is useful when one specification sheet says 600 TBW and another says 0.3 DWPD, because a capacity and warranty term are needed before those numbers can be compared fairly. The output is vendor-neutral: it describes arithmetic, not a product ranking.
Before you start
Copy the rated capacity, warranty duration, source metric, and source value from the manufacturer documentation. Use decimal GB or TB, as SSD endurance specifications normally do. Confirm whether the source says TBW or PBW; PBW is one thousand TBW. If workload writes are logical host writes, record a separate planning WAF rather than silently treating them as NAND writes. Keep the original label beside the converted result for later review.
How the calculation works
The converter uses DWPD = TBW × 1000 ÷ capacity GB ÷ 365 ÷ warranty years. It reverses that expression for a DWPD source and derives GB per day by multiplying DWPD by capacity GB. Full-drive writes divide total allowed GB by capacity. An optional WAF divides the physical daily budget to show a logical planning budget. Intermediate values remain unrounded; displayed numbers are rounded only for reading.
How to interpret the results
A higher TBW alone does not prove a larger daily allowance because capacity and warranty can differ. DWPD is often the clearer normalized comparison, while GB per day is easier to reconcile with monitoring data. Full-drive writes can communicate scale, but it is not an expected daily operating pattern. Treat the result as a warranty-planning metric. It does not predict a calendar date for physical failure or claim that all workloads create the same NAND activity.
Worked example
For a 1,000 GB drive with a five-year, 600 TBW rating, the calculation returns roughly 0.329 DWPD and 329 GB per day. The same rating is 0.6 PBW and represents 600 full-drive writes across the warranty period. With a planning WAF of 1.5, the corresponding logical daily budget is about 219 GB per day. Changing only capacity would change DWPD even though TBW stayed fixed.
Assumptions and limitations
This page does not validate a vendor warranty claim, infer an SSD controller policy, or model cache behavior, spare area, temperature, firmware, burst traffic, or SMART interpretation. WAF is a scenario input, not a universal constant. A rating may have warranty conditions beyond write volume. Always read the product documentation and preserve a margin for uncertain workloads. Decimal TBW calculations should not be mixed with TiB capacity figures without a deliberate unit conversion.
