Endurance ratings need workload context

TBW, DWPD, WAF, host writes, capacity, and warranty describe different parts of a planning problem. An endurance rating is not a physical-failure date. Start by normalizing the published specification, test the candidate workload, then prefer measured writes over estimates when they become available.

Where to start

Begin with the converter if the SSD label is unfamiliar. Use the lifespan calculator when a candidate drive and daily workload are known. Choose the cache or virtual-workload planner when per-drive distribution matters. Use remaining endurance after you have two readings from the same counter.

Recommended workflow

Convert the specification, test the candidate, model NAS cache or VM writes, measure actual host writes, and plan replacement and budget. Re-run the model whenever migration, logging, backup, or cache policy changes. Keep low, base, and high WAF cases beside the decision.

What to prepare

Bring decimal capacity, TBW or PBW, warranty term, counter units, existing host writes, daily logical writes, layout, write shares, and a realistic procurement lead time. Save source documentation and measurement dates. Do not invent a vendor write-amplification factor.
