Purpose and method
Planning tools for the decisions behind storage.
Data Storage Lab is built for people who need a clear, vendor-neutral way to plan data capacity, protection, backups, performance, and long-term ownership before comparing products.
Why this site exists
A storage purchase is rarely only a question of drive capacity. A workable plan connects data growth, protection overhead, independent copies, restore speed, local network limits, power protection, and the cost of changing direction later. Our tools are designed to surface those connections in plain language.
Vendor-neutral by design
Recommendations begin with requirements: bay count, drive quantity and capacity, protection approach, backup copy, network tier, UPS class, and budget range. They do not begin with a brand or a specific product. When product research is useful, use the result as a specification brief.
What calculator results mean
Results are estimates based on the inputs and stated assumptions. They can help compare options, identify missing copies, and start a more informed conversation. They are not a guarantee of performance, availability, data recovery, electrical runtime, or vendor compatibility.
Not a news or review site
Data Storage Lab focuses on evergreen planning tools and reference material rather than daily product prices, breaking news, or a catalog of affiliate-driven recommendations.
Important boundary
For business-critical systems, regulated data, electrical installation, or a recovery commitment with legal or contractual consequences, seek qualified professional advice and verify current vendor documentation.
